Members Present: Austen, Josh, Sulan, Vince, Hassan, Peace
Time Start: 7pm Time End: 9pm Sexual Information Center (SIC) Vince: They were given 37k last year. Peace: You want to start with office supplies? Vince: Yeah that looks reasonable. Does anyone think they need 300$ of pizza to talk about consent? Austen: Yeah they got to do something to get through these kids’ heads. Vince: Proposal to fund office supplies in full. 5/0/0 Passes Vince: Proposal to fund doula bags in full. 5/0/0 Passes Josh: Proposal to fund emergency contraceptives in full at 500. 5/0/0 Passes. Peace: Proposal to fund website in full at 236$. 5/0/0 Passes. Josh: They bumped up safer sex supplies. Vince: Proposal to fund condoms in full at 1739$. 5/0/0 Passes. Peace: Proposal to fund personal lubricant in full at 1574.35. 5/0/0 Passes. Josh: Proposal to fund products in Other in full at 4498.84 5/0/0 Passes. Vince: Proposal to fund transportation in full at 179.20 5/0/0 Passes. Vince: I don’t think they should get food for the Sex talk Wilder night. Peace: Yeah I don’t see a justification for it. This is also one of those orgs where they have enough money to move around if they really wanted to have it. Hassan: I think the food they’re asking for is for the starting festival they’re doing or the end TGIF event, not the workshops in between, because they wouldn’t have enough food for that. They explain that in their mid year. Peace: I put in a proposal for 531, everything but food. Hassan: I propose to fund in full. Top Down 1/4/0 Does not pass. Proposal for 531 5/0/0 Passes. Peace: Last year they asked for one speaker to co-fund with a bunch of different orgs and we gave them the 2000. Josh: Proposal to fund speakers in 1260, the largest speaker in full. Peace: Proposal to fund at 660, because they’re not bringing any speakers this year. Josh: Well since they were co-funding it, is it their fault if it fell through? Peace: I would put it on the fault of all the orgs involved but it’s also not particular to their mission to bring speakers. Josh: I think we should bring the big speaker and one of the little ones. Top Down 4/1/0 Proposal to fund at 1260 passes. Peace: Proposal to fund to fund SIC TGIF in full. Vince: Wait this is kind of like the wilder event. Josh: The kick off event they’re saying is this party yes but there’s also free HIV testing and letter writing and to me that’s the most important part and the other event is just strictly a celebration. It’s just TGIF to celebrate the end of the week. I’m fine with that. Proposal to fund in full. 5/0/0 Passes. Peace: Next is SPIRAL Abortion Support Workshop. Josh: They ad-hoc’d for this. Vince: We probably shouldn’t be funding anything without a source. Where is this food coming from? Josh: I’m looking for the food they asked for when they ad-hoc’d for this and they only asked for breakfast from The Local and Aladdin’s for that. So we can cut the jello and stuff. Vince: Well we can’t cut those because the speaker they’re bringing asks for it. Peace: I don’t think it really matters for the unspecified food. Vince: That’s very preferential to this group, but I understand why we’d do that. I think we should cut it though. Hassan: It’s not that much money, I’m comfortable with it. Vince: It’s like a hundred dollars, that’s something. Josh: Proposal to fund in full at 1417.89. 5/0/0 Passes Josh: Therapy animals - proposal to fund in full. Peace: Lowkey I kind of just don’t want to do it. With income they could probably pay for this. Vince: They also don’t make any attempt to align it with their mission statement. Peace: Proposal to fund in full. 1/4/0 Does not pass. Josh: Proposal to fund New Member Brunch/Hiring Brunch in full. Hassan: As an institutional org they have a lot of stuff they have to give to their new members and interacting with their members like this. 2/3/0 Does not pass. Josh: The payroll they’re asking for is 1500 more. They increased hours by one a week and added winter term; they also decreased the number of staffers. Vince: Are we paying them in full? Josh: They usually work about 10 hours a week. Vince: This would be one of those times where we fund a group for payroll at an amount way more than other groups. We just gave Exco committee two-thirds even though they’re also essential to the college. Josh: I’m thinking of funding this in full or if we’re worried this is too many hours, I’d fund with winter term and cut fall and spring to 7 like last year. Proposal to fund stipends at 28,199$. 5/0/0 Passes. Josh: They’re asking for 20 dollars to print zines. Proposal to fund printing costs at 161.60, in full minus the therapy dog posters. Second proposal to fund at 141.60 without the zines and therapy dog posters. Top Down 4/1/0 Passes Members Present: Peace, Vince, Josh, Hassan, Elijah Time Start: 1:00pm Time End: 5pm Bike Co-Op Josh: Last year we gave them 11k. They’re requesting 8 dollars less than they asked for last year, but more than they got. Josh: They added a double arm repair stand but don’t explain it. So I’d be in favor of funding all the items besides that one. Vince: A lot of this math is wrong so we have to recalculate it. Hassan: If you go under equipment they explain the need for the double arm bike stand. Vince: We have to say which items are wrongly calculated so we can make a note of it and they can change it next year, because it’s the same budget. Peace: Proposal to fund supplies at 4006.22. 4/0/0 Passes. Josh: If every year their helmets are being stolen they have to change something about the way they operate. Peace: The helmets are a little sus. Headlights and taillights - why do they need those every year? Hassan: Ohio law mandates that the bikes needs to have headlights and taillights. Josh: Them saying that their tools are in the hands of the inexperienced members doesn’t validate them asking for the same amount of tools every year without reflecting the change in what we gave them in their inventory. Peace: Elijah can you see how much money they ended with in FY16? Elijah: They spent all but 500. Josh: Proposal to fund equipment in full 2138.50, cutting six pieces are equipment still in their inventory with lifespans of 3-5 years. 4/0/0. Passes. Vince: Do they not pay their mechanics over the year? Josh: Just during commencement and summer. Peace: I would equate this to the job that OST does here and it’s mad necessary and a specialized skill. Josh: yeah but then you get in the position of deciding what’s a necessity and what’s not, and there’s a lot of things that are a necessity. But I agree with the labor argument. Josh: I propose to fund paid positions in full at 7200. 4/0/0 Passes. Peace: Publicity. Josh: Last year we told them to put their events on two posters, one for fall and one for spring because otherwise it’d be so many posters. Josh: All in favor of funding publicity at 225. 4/0/0 Passes. Peace: Income. Josh: If we deduct their income in full they’d have got a 500 increase from last year. Vince: Proposal to deduct 1165 of income. 4/0/0 Passes. Josh: So their total is 12404.72. Swap - Book Co-op Peace: They’re asking for 963.42. Josh: The major cut we made was that last year they asked for a scanner and a printer and they had asked for gotten it the year before and didn’t explain why they put those costs again the next year. Otherwise we funded in full. Peace: Proposal to fund rent in full at $2. 4/0/0 Passes. Vince: Proposal to fund website and server in full at 76.09. 4/0/0 Passes. Josh: Proposal to fund printing in full at 37.10 4/0/0 Passes. Vince: Proposal to fund promotional items at 21.30. 4/0/0 Passes. Vince: They need a new bookshelf for their new books and replacement bookshelves. Proposal to fund in full at 113.64. 4/0/0 Passes. Josh: I’d cut general interest to 120, or if it’s just food, 100. Unless you want to add publicity. Vince: They’re not publicizing it. Proposal to fund member meeting at 100. 4/0/0 Passes. Peace: For the management retreat I would cut advertising. Vince: Proposal to fund at 50. 4/0/0 Passes. Vince: Proposal to fund facilities and maintenance in full at 19.92. 4/0/0 Passes. Vince: Proposal to fund inventory supplies in full at 104. 4/0/0 Passes. Peace: Root Beer for Books. Vince: I think I remember this. Josh: Proposal to fund at 20, taking out the unitemized snacks and drinks. 4/0/0 Passes. Peace: Tbh, not feeling the argument for the mugs. Vince: That sounds nice. But the mugs might get stolen and it doesn’t seem super necessary. Vince: Proposal to fund other office supplies, for stickers, lighting and mugs at 46.83 Peace: Proposal to fund stickers and lighting only. Top Down. 2/2/0 OST breaks tie Proposal passes at 46.83. Peace: Leisure library. The want to furnish a leisure library to make a welcoming space for all students. They want floor cushions, a rug, and christmas lights. Vince: I’m good to fund in full. Peace: Proposal to fund in full at 172.54. 4/0/0 Passes. Student Senate Peace: I propose to fund basic supplies at 46, which is everything minus the gavel and the nameplate for the office hours. Josh: I propose the same thing but with the gavel, so 59.99. Top Down 2/2/0 OST breaks tie. Does not pass. Proposal for 46. 4/0/0 Passes. Josh: The math is right for forums but I don’t know if they need beverages. There’s water fountains in wilder. And then also cut napkins and plates because those get delivered. Peace: Do y’all forreal do 8 forums? Josh: We do however much we have to, which is 3 a semester. So you can cut that to 6. Peace: I would do beverages in full. Josh: With beverages it’s 351.90, without beverages it’s 329.70. Top Down 3/1/0 Forums Passes at 351.90. Josh: Proposal to fund the New York Times subscription for printed copies in full at 1296.40. 4/0/0 Passes. Peace: We have to adjust the notetaker stipend to 8.15/hour. Proposal to fund at 423.80. 4/0/0 Passes. Vince: Legal Aid Fund. This is so important. Josh: We asked for a quote for if the attorney was going to be on campus once a week for a weekend and the quote was 28000-32000. The 2500 for this would be Senate’s contribution. We’re in the process of writing grants and applying for funds to get the rest of the money. Elijah: There’s no legal aid fund or any other group that does work like this that could get the money if they don’t get the other 30 grand? Vince: How did they come to 2500. Josh: They came to me with 10k and I said that was too much. Peace: Me personally, I don’t really know if senate has to put this under their budget. This seems like something bigger than a student org. I would say they could think of us as another trustee or donor. Vince: We also have no idea what the next committee’s going to look like. Elijah: There’s a lot of know your rights groups that other orgs put on, is there any way this person can like come to those or do workshops on their own so people know about legal aid. I don’t know that we should fund this right now. I think if we leave a note for the other committee saying why we didn’t fund it because it’s uncertain right now and Senate doesn’t really know how to best optimize his time right now. Because even if they get the 30k it might be wasted if he doesn’t do anything. Vince: Proposal to fund in full. 0/4/0 Does not pass. Vince: Okay, speaker. Did they ask for a speaker last year? Josh: No but we actually did bring one, we got money from student life. I see the benefit of bringing the speaker but the honorarium might be a little high. Peace: We used to have stuff in our pricing guide about honorariums. Peace: Oh snap, did y’all do a mid year? Vince: I guess we have to cut it 10%. Josh: So that would mean no higher than 3866.40. Peace: For the speaker I would fund the honorarium at 1000. Peace: Proposal to fund at 1490.50, honorarium cut to 1k, lecture sound system cut. 4/0/0 Passes. Josh: Spring and fall break meals. Every break we have more students come to the meals because more people know the break meals are happening. This past spring break was 1.3k. These costs are based off the costs of this year, but next year it’ll likely be higher. Peace: Proposal to fund in full at 2630.50. 4/0/0 Passes. Peace: Student Activism Discretionary Fund. Hassan: This is exactly like ad hoc. Josh: That’s what I told them. This actually got voted on whether this line item should be voted on the budget and it got on. I told them SFC would not vote for this. Vince: Proposal to fund in full. 0/4/0 Does not pass. Peace: We still have publicity. Josh: Proposal to fund forums publicity at 344 or 264. Top Down 4/0/0 Passes. Peace: Now the deduction. Josh: We have to deduct 2,716.70 for no mid year. All in favor 3/1/0 Passes. 4.28.17 Members Present: Vince, Hassan, Peace, Sulan, Natalia Time Start: 7:20pm Time End: OPASS Vince: They said they were going to fix publicity for next year. Proposal to fund the budget in full at 48,500. 4/0/1 Passes. 3.31.17 Members Present: Sulan, Vince, Josh, Peace, Hassan, Austen Time Start: 7pm Time End: 9pm EXCO COMMITTEE J: They’re requesting 5430 for the year for stipends and our proposal takes them down to 1691.68. They’re trying to get paid in full and that’s just not how we do it. V: Do you think publications should all have the same hourly rate? J: I think it’s fair for now. V: It might be useful to put that in policy sometime, the rule about paying for 2/3 of actual hours. J: Proposal to fund at 1691.68, cutting the chair to 2.4 and officers 1.25 and we kept fall and spring at four officers for both. 8 total stipended hours for the chair and 5 total for the officers. 4/0/0 Passes. S: The prices for the items on this budget are more expensive than they were last year for the same items. V: Some of this math is wrong. H: Some things are actually cheaper in the new one, like the manila folders and tape. J: I’m okay with the supplies. V: Well it’s not correct, like the little things. It’s just staples is wrong. It’s 50 cents, but it’s still wrong. V: Proposal to fund supplies at 125.47, in full adjusting for staples cost. 5/0/0 Passes. J: 400 for posters? S: It does say they’re trying to expand their advertisement. J: That’s enough to cover every square inch of campus. V: I think the poster cost is kind of high. J: I agree. J: Proposal to fund copying costs at 408, 35 for posters plus 25 a poster for paying the student designer. 1/4/0 Does not pass. J: Proposal to fund at 376, what they asked for for posters, minus the labor cost. 0/5/0 Does not pass. J: Proposal to fund at 308, just 35 per poster. 5/0/0 Passes. P: Proposal to fund website in full. 5/0/0 Passes. Proposal to fund activities at 832, with chairs adjusted to the correct costs. 5/0/0 Passes. V: They’re asking for 2 grand for class materials. S: Last year they got 1.5k and they said it wasn’t enough. P: Proposal to fund at 2000. 5/0/0 Passes. P: Food. J: Proposal to fund food at 224, in full. 0/5/0 Does not pass. J: Proposal to fund food at 120. 4/1/0 Passes. CONSERVATROY COUNSEL P: Last year we funded them at 445. V: I think 120 is reasonable for Welcome Back Fest which does sound like general interest. H: Did they meet with anybody? J: I met with Jude but not with the treasurer. But I remember seeing the treasurer in here sometime. J: Proposal to fund Welcome Back Fest at 120. 5/0/0 Passes. J: They’re asking for a ton of money for lemonade, that they could get for way cheaper at Walmart. V: I think we should just do the lunch platter. H: I think we should do lunch platter and lemonade, cutting the donuts and candy bags. Because what matters is how much money we give them in the end they’re going to spend it how they want to anyways. P: I’m going to propose in full minus the large pizza. J: Is food even part of their mission? P: It’s an event for the middle schoolers. V: It’s a benefit concert to bring the community together. J: I propose lunch platter, donuts and candy A: I think you should fund in full. H: I propose lunch platter and lemonade. V: I’m proposing just the lunch platter. Top Down In full 0/5/0 Does not pass. 455.64, in full minus the large pizza. 2/3/0 Does not pass. 392, lemonade and lunch platter. 5/0/0 Passes. V: We gave them 50 bucks last year for professor beers. P: Professor beers isn’t usually an event for food. J: And they have chips and popcorn in the sco for free. V: I’m okay with giving them advertising. H: They didn’t ask for it though. V: They didn’t ask for it last year either and we gave it to them. V: Proposal to fund at 25 for posters. 2/3/0 Does not pass. Comments are closed.
